Review - Youthmovies, London, Bardens Boudoir, 26.01.08Tonight Bardens Boudoir is the home to DiS' Winter Warmer that sees Tired Irie and Youthmovies taking the stage of this tiny East London venue in Dalston. Seeing the crowd's reaction, you can easily guess that most of them are here for Youthmovies. And Youthmovies solely. And you can tell it by the audience's reaction, quite lethargic and still during the support bands, vigorously dancing to Youthmovies tunes, taken from their forthcoming, long-awaited and highly praised first album Good Nature. And of course, clapping hands during that well-known part in Ores. And how can you not be considered one of the most ambitious and creative band around when your set opener is no other than the grand If You'd Seen A Battlefield. Every single song of theirs contains more ideas and creativity than a whole album of, say, most British indie trendy NME-labelled rock bands that I won't name, out of respect for them. Youthmovies' music is clever, but not pretentious. Their songs, with an average 6/7 minute length, take you on a trip where you experience so many different feelings in such a small amount of time that you can't not be emotionnally affected by their live performances. Andrew's delicate vocals is completed with Al's distorted guitar parts and Sam's brass. Seems like each of them is playing his instrument for his own sake but when you put it all together live, they sound like completing each other, forming complex and ambitious songs such as the majestic and epic So&So and So&So or the emotional rollercoaster that is Ores.
