Review - Hadouken!, New Slang at Kingston The Works, 11.11.07
By the time Hadouken! gets on stage at The Works (the instore for Banquet Records has been moved from the store to the local venue due to massive demand), the crowd is already wild - the fact that the audience is made of 15 year-olds who are allowed in a club for the first time in their life is not a coincidence. Might also be the reason why an apparently dreary James keeps mumbling on his micro rather than singing/rapping – whatever the side you’re on in the Hadouken! debate. « Drink Smoke Fuck Fight » James eventually shouts, but that doesn’t seem to inspire the kids that much – except for the fight maybe, as kind of waves and aborted mosh-pits appear in the crowd.
The set didn’t even last for 30 minutes, but it’s enough : Hadouken!’s strident sounds and acid lyrics are just like artificial-flavoured acid sweets : we like them, but their taste fade away pretty quickly.
